Collaboration starts with a conversation
Where do great ideas come from?
Whatever we cite as our individual inspiration, one thing is certain: great, beautiful, game-changing ideas are made stronger through collaboration. The creative process itself is inspired and driven by the strength of our collaborations. We have seen many of the tech giants make a play in this space: Dropbox with Paper, Google with Docs, Microsoft and Office 365, Quip (acquired by Salesforce).
But instead of making the collaboration a seamless part of the creative process, most existing tools attempt to squeeze your workflow into their worldview. They want you to work they way they work. But what if that doesn’t work for you? Or you don’t even use their solution at all? The need to conform radically ignores that collaboration is an organic process that occurs between humans.
Tooling that constrains natural processes ultimately introduces additional overhead and burden, instead of making the process easier.
Tools to make radically beautiful ideas, together
When we started work on TinyMCE’s Collaboration solution, we focussed passionately on creating a human-centered toolset. A solution that supported the early exchange of ideas, that placed value on super rough first drafts created together.
Tiny Conversations is being built from the ground up to make it easy to make radically beautiful ideas together. We interviewed hundreds of TinyMCE customers last year, we listened to your stories and took notes. We heard what you said.
You are running a business. Your business relies on the quality of the ideas that are generated. You already have tools in place that help you do what you do. You do not want to change all that. You want to add traceable, centrally located collaboration features into your editing software.
Introducing Tiny Conversations preview
We heard what you said, and we started our collaboration journey with Tiny Conversations. Simple, collaboration components that integrate into your applications via cloud-based API’s. Notifications that get sent to your phone, so you can make edits and provide feedback whether in the office, weekend sports with the kids, or the supermarket checkout line. Tooling that does not make you conform to someone else’s worldview.
What did we pack into the developer preview?
We started with a beautiful, crisp UX and easy to integrate cloud-based API’s.
In the new Tiny Conversations preview, you will meet TinyBot, a little legend that will guide you through the few setup steps. You have a choice to fly solo or try the demo features out on your own. You can also invite your colleagues to join the conversation, and experience the full feature set including real-time notifications. The beta has limited mobile capabilities: these will be built out in time for the official release.
We built a bot for Tiny Conversations Preview designed to help you get started quickly. TinyBot uses the same Conversations API’s you will be able to use in your own apps and editing solutions. The collaboration features that you see can be added into any TinyMCE deployment – from basic to full-featured deployments. Even in custom themes like the one we created for the demo.
Flying solo, or better with friends
The bot lets you add comments to the document, however, you will not receive new comment notifications unless you provide an email address. Even here, you can choose to provide your own email or invite a few friends along if you’d like to play with the notification capabilities.
Once you have set up your notification preferences in the preview, TinyBot will open a read-only version of your document. You can now select any text in the document and add a comment. If you have invited friends, TinyBot will send them a notification when new comments are added to the document.
Moving beyond our developer preview
We are looking to work with integrating developers to understand your technical requirements. We want to keep conversation history “attached” to its content context while making sure that people can engage in the conversation using the apps that make the most sense to them. We want to free you from having important details scattered across email, multiple documents, content management systems and messaging applications.
All collaboration starts with a shared objective and a conversation. We’d like to start that with you now. If you’d like to share your ideas about collaboration in TinyMCE please ping

We’re just getting started with Tiny Conversations. We have a much bigger goals for collaboration. Learn more in our post explaining our vision for collaboration in TinyMCE.
